Trump says he had productive talk with new Canadian prime minister
Trump said the two leaders agreed on many things.
President Donald Trump said Friday he had a productive call with new Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Trump said the two leaders agreed on many things, amid a tariff war between the neighboring countries and Trump talked about annexing Canada, one the United States' longest and closest allies.
"I just finished speaking with Prime Minister Mark Carney, of Canada," Trump wrote on TRUTH Social. "It was an extremely productive call, we agree on many things, and will be meeting immediately after Canada’s upcoming Election to work on elements of Politics, Business, and all other factors, that will end up being great for both the United States of America and Canada. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
They spoke one day after Carney said that the "old relationship" with the U.S. "is over."
Earlier this month, Canada announced it would impose $20.7 billion in tariffs to retaliate against President Donald Trump's 25% steel and aluminum tariffs.
