Death toll from mudslides near Nepal-China border climbs to at least 676

The death toll from catastrophic flooding and mudslides near the Nepal-China border has climbed to at least 676, with rescue efforts hampered by continuing bad weather.

Updated figures released by Nepali authorities on Saturday brought the combined number of deaths reported in Nepal and Tibet to 676, while nearly 3,000 people remain unaccounted for, The Associated Press reported. 

Chinese officials have confirmed seven deaths and said more than 550 people are missing. In Nepal, the disaster agency reported 669 fatalities and 2,426 people still missing as search-and-rescue operations continue.
