Golden statue depicting a nude Donald Trump appears at European Parliament

A golden statue that depicted President Donald Trump naked appeared inside the European Parliament this week as part of a two-day art exhibition.
Danish artist Jens Galschiøt installed the sculpture, called “The Orange Plague,” in the building in France, on Tuesday. The statue depicted Trump nude and covered in 23-karat gold leaf, and sitting on the shoulders of a frail man on a short pedestal.
A text below the statue reads: “I am sitting on the back of a man. He is sinking under my burden. I will do anything to help him. Except stepping down from his back," according to The Hill.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico slammed the art piece Thursday and called for its removal, although it had already been taken down, claiming its presence was a "sign of the decline of the entire European Union."
"I do not agree with all of the American president’s policies, not by a long shot," Fico said on X. "But at a time that calls for dialogue and mutual respect, insulting our partners on official premises demonstrates a profound failure to understand the times we live in.
"It is sad that the leadership of the European Parliament, in its blindness, can no longer distinguish between the legitimate right to hold a different opinion and the actions of spiritually bankrupt individuals, adventurers and lunatics," he added.
Galschiøt promoted the statue on his X account, writing Wednesday that he was handing out 10,000 miniature versions of the statue to the EU's visitors.
The artist said the statue was inspired by Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Emperor Wears No Clothes," and is a "satirical outcry against Trump and the U.S. assault on the green transition and the rule-based world order.”
"Nations as well as NGOs are afraid to openly raise the subject on how to deal with Trump and his policies, fearing tariffs, fund-cuts, deportations or the like," Galschiøt wrote on his website. "This sculpture has been made to address 'the elephant in the room' and start a necessary debate of how the US is destroying the world's only chance to counter the climate catastrophe and a debate on how stand up against him."
