Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced Thursday his country is withdrawing from the International Criminal Court – the same day Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to arrive for a four-day trip.

"The government will initiate the withdrawal procedure on Thursday, in accordance with the constitutional and international legal framework," reads a statement from Orban's office, according to The Associated Press.

Netanyahu's trip to Hungary is his second visit abroad since the international court issued a warrant in November against him and then-Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes in Gaza.

The court has also issued warrants for several leaders of the militant group Hamas, which has been at war with Israel in Gaza since October 2023.
