Prosecutors say suspect identified in 2007 Madeleine McCann disappearance
Three-year-old vanished on family vacation in Portugal.
Portuguese authorities this week said they have identified a suspect in the disappearance of British child Madeleine McCann, who vanished in Portugal while on vacation with her family in 2007.
Prosecutors have not disclosed a name of the suspect, though the individual is apparently a German resident, as the charges were brought by German officials at the request of Portugal.
McCann disappeared from her family’s hotel room in 2007 at a resort in Faro, Portugal while her parents were at dinner several dozen yards away. She was the subject of a heavily publicized international search, though neither she nor any remains have ever turned up.
Authorities had reportedly earlier suspected convicted German rapist Christian Brueckner of the crime, though he has not been charged with any offenses related to McCann’s disappearance.
