Trump joins in the palace intrigue, predicts UK Prime Minister Starmer will resign
Some reporting in the British press is that Starmer is pondering a resignation this week while in the English countryside and could announce an exit as early as Monday.
President Trump on Sunday joined in the widespread speculation about the fate of United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer after another damaging electoral setback.
There is reporting in the British press that Starmer is pondering a resignation this week while in the English countryside and could announce an exit as early as Monday.
However, other reporting, also based on unnamed sources, is that Starmer remains steadfast about not resigning, a position he's taken since his Labour Party lost hundreds of seats in local elections last month across England, Scotland and Wales.
Last week, party rival Andy Burnham won a House of Commons seat, putting him in position to challenge Starmer. Burnham gets sworn-in Monday, which could allow the prime minister time to resign, amid internal pressure from his party, before having to face a challenge he could likely lose, then be ousted.
Starmer has also had to walk a fine political line on immigration policy, considering the calls for a crackdown on illegal migration while considering the increasingly influential Muslim faction of the country's electorate.
Adding to the so-called palace intrigue, or political chatter, Trump posted Sunday on Truth Social: “Keir Starmer will resign as Prime Minister of The United Kingdom,. He failed badly on two very important subjects- IMMIGRATION AND ENERGY (OPEN NORTH SEA OIL!). I wish him well! President DJT."
