United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday said Europe needs to "step up" defense capabilities regarding Ukraine's security.

These remarks come after him saying he would be willing to put British troops on the ground in Ukraine to enforce a peace deal during an interview with The Telegraph outlet.

"We need to step up in terms of our collective response in Europe, and by that I mean capability," Starmer said, according to the BBC.

Ukraine has been at war since 2022 when Russia invaded, resulting in the U.S. and other countries financially supporting the country.

Officials from Russia and the U.S. are expected to meet in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday to discuss ending the war.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has already said the country would not be a part of these discussions.
