UN votes to condemn US economic embargo on Cuba, but more nations oppose the measure or abstain
The vote was 134-15, and 25 nations abstained, which was a considerable decrease in support for the condemnation over last year.
The U.N. General Assembly voted to condemn the U.S. economic embargo against Cuba for the 34th year on Wednesday.
The vote was 134-17, and 25 nations abstained, which was a considerable decrease in support for the condemnation over last year, the Associated Press reported.
Germany, Italy and Latvia were among the nations that refrained from voting, and Bosnia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Lithuania, Morocco, North Macedonia, Paraguay and Slovenia were among those member states that voted against the measure.
For many of them, it was the first time they'd opposed it. The resolution is not legally binding, but such measures are generally considered a reflection of world opinion.
