Defense Department planning to withdraw all US troops from Syria: report

The Defense Department is reportedly planning to pull all U.S. troops out Syria.

Sources told NBC News on Tuesday that President Donald Trump and officials close to him have shown interest in pulling out of Syria completely. 

Pentagon officials are expected to make plans for a full withdrawal in 30, 60 or 90 days.

Last week, a reporter asked Trump whether he had informed the Israeli government of the possibility of the U.S. leaving Syria. 

Trump responded by saying that Syria "is its own mess" and that the U.S. doesn't need to be involved in it. 

During his first term, Trump ordered troops be withdrawn from Syria, resulting in then-Defense Secretary James Mattis pushing back on the idea and later resigning. 

As of now the U.S. still has a presence in Syria.
