The speaker of Iran’s parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, on Sunday warned that if the U.S. invaded his country the troops would be “set on fire” and that Iran would step up attacks on U.S. allies in the region.

Ghalibaf warned that Iranian forces are “waiting for the arrival of American troops on the ground to set them on fire and punish their regional partners forever.”

The speaker’s comments come 30 days into the bruising Israeli- and U.S.-led bombing operation of Tehran and other Iranian cities.

Around 3,500 U.S. troops have been moved to the Middle East on the USS assault ship Tripoli.
