Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday said that Israel had killed senior Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar.

Netanyahu made the announcement during a speech to the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, Fox News reported. He had earlier only said that the terrorist leader was "apparently" killed.

The prime minister said Sinwar was killed by an IDF airstrike on May 13, according to the Jerusalem Post.

Sinwar was one of Israel's most wanted targets and the younger brother of the group's deceased leader, Yahya Sinwar.

Hamas has not confirmed Sinwar's death.
