Iranian and U.S. negotiators are planning meetings on Tuesday in Qatar, which is a key mediator in the discussions, the New York Times reported.
One of Iran's negotiators reasserted Iran's plans to control shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, and he rejected internationally recognized shipping routes established in 1968. The waterway is crucial to international trade in energy, and rules over its control remain a point of contention in the negotiations.
Iran's foreign ministry spokesman, Esmael Baghaei, also said on Tuesday that no meetings with U.S. officials are planned in the coming days in Doha.
