Ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz shows rebound

Traffic remains well below what it was before the war began at the end of February when 130 ships would pass through the strait every day.

At least 250 ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz last week, which shows a considerable increase over the previous week's numbers when 138 ships transited the strait.

The increase comes despite Iranian strikes on two commercial ships, the Associated Press reported, citing marine data and analysis company Lloyd’s List Intelligence.

Traffic has slowed slightly since the strikes and remains well below what it was before the war in Iran began at the end of February, when approximately 130 ships would pass through the waterway every day.

Richard Meade, editor-in-chief at Lloyd’s, said that ships transiting the strait have to choose between complying with Iran's demands or using a route off Oman that U.S. forces monitor. Meade said it's not a stable situation.
