Trump administration planning to deliver one-ton bombs in $2.8 billion sale to Israel

The Trump administration is planning to sell 2,000-pound bombs to Israel as part of a $2.8 billion arms deal. 

Two years ago, the Biden administration paused delivery of the weapons after concerns were raised the bombs caused mass casualties in Gaza. Trump lifted the pause when he took office.

The deal, which is not yet final, includes 20,000 Mk84s and 20,000 BLU-117s, the Associated Press reported, citing unnamed sources. 

Congress has been informally notified of the pending deal, most of which is paid for by giving U.S. tax dollars to Israel, which uses the funding to buy the weapons from the U.S. 

The pending sale is part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to improve Israel's military capacity.
