Trump says he does not want regime change in Iran

President Trump on Tuesday said that he does not want regime change in Iran, after bringing it up over the weekend.

“I don’t want it,” Trump told reporters on Air Force One as he traveled to the NATO summit in The Hague, Netherlands, The Associated Press reported. “I’d like to see everything calm down as quickly as possible. Regime change takes chaos and ideally, we don’t want to see so much chaos, so we’ll see how it does.”

On Sunday, Trump posted on Truth Social, "It’s not politically correct to use the term, 'Regime Change,' but if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change??? MIGA!!!"

Trump's comments on Tuesday follow his announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran on Monday, after the two countries exchanged missile fire and the U.S. hit Iranian nuclear sites on Saturday.

On Tuesday, Trump said that both Israel and Iran violated the ceasefire agreement. However, later Tuesday morning, he posted on Truth Social, "ISRAEL is not going to attack Iran. All planes will turn around and head home, while doing a friendly 'Plane Wave' to Iran. Nobody will be hurt, the Ceasefire is in effect! Thank you for your attention to this matter! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES"

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said Tuesday that following a phone call with Trump, "Israel refrained from additional attacks," after striking an Iranian radar in response to the Iranian missile attack earlier that day, according to the AP.
