UAE blames Iran for attack on Abu Dhabi vessel in Strait of Hormuz

The United Arab Emirates said one of its state-owned oil company's vessels came under attack while passing through the Strait of Hormuz, adding to mounting concerns over the safety of commercial shipping in the strategic waterway.

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, or ADNOC, said the incident occurred Thursday while the vessel was transiting the strait, according to the Emirati state news agency WAM. No injuries were reported and the company said the situation was under control.

The UAE blamed Iran for the attack and called on Tehran to stop what it described as unprovoked attacks on commercial vessels and to fully reopen the waterway.

Iran had not immediately commented on the latest allegation.

The incident came just days after the UAE accused Iran of attacking two other ADNOC vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. ADNOC has said 15 of its vessels have been targeted by missiles or drones since the conflict began, with one crew member killed and 20 others injured.
