United Arab Emirates reports that it intercepted three drones in most recent attack

The United Arab Emirates acknowledged Thursday having intercepted three attack drones that recently made their way into the country's airspace, according to a report from Reuters.

A group called Awliya Wa'ad al-Haq, or "True Promise Brigade," claimed responsibility for the attack. The group has previously claimed credit for several drone attacks across the Middle East, including one in January 2021 in Saudi Arabia.

The drones arrive Wednesday, days after the Iran-backed Houthi rebels sent missiles toward the UAE, including one aimed at a base that houses U.S. troops.

The UAE on Monday said it intercepted a missile that was sent over while Israel President Isaac Herzog was visiting. The country's ministry of defense says it intercepted and destroyed the missile, parts of which then landed in unpopulated areas of the country. It is unclear precisely where the missile was heading. 

Also on Wednesday, the U.S. announced it would send fighter jets and a guided missile destroyer to the UAE to help fend off missile attacks from the Houthi rebels.
