U.S. military says airstrikes hit 90 targets across Iran as hostilities continue into another day

The U.S. and Iran overnight and into Thursday have traded attacks, which threatens to dissolve an interim peace agreement intended to provide time to negotiate a lasting peace deal. 

The U.S. Central Command said it hit approximately 90 targets in airstrikes across Iran. 

"U.S. forces remain vigilant, lethal, and prepared to execute operations directed by the Commander in Chief," Centcom said in a statement posted on X. 

The airstrikes follow Iranian attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz this week, and Iranian officials reported another round of attacks in the strait on Thursday morning, NBC News reported. 

Iran's Foreign Ministry called the strikes against it a "grave war crime," claiming the attacks targeted civilian infrastructure, including two railway bridges. According to CENTCOM, U.S. strikes targeted "air defense systems, coastal surveillance assets, missile and drone storage sites, naval capabilities, and military logistics infrastructure along Iran’s coastline." 

Tehran's attacks have extended across the Middle East against U.S. allies' targets, sparking alerts in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan.
