US special forces veterans, contractors will be involved in screening vehicles at Gaza checkpoint

U.S. security contractors are going to be involved in screening vehicles that are traveling from southern to northern Gaza amid the ceasefire deal in the Israel-Hamas war. 

UG Solutions, a private company, will hire 96 special forces veterans to be at the Gaza checkpoint, according to a report Thursday from Reuters.

Egyptian security contractors are also expected to help the U.S. with this process, according to the wire service report. 

The contractors will be screening vehicles to check for weapons. Displaced Palestinians are beginning to return to northern Gaza amid a search fire agreement between Israel and Hamas, the Palestinian-backed group that controls the region. 

The ceasefire deal was reached in the final days of then-President Joe Biden's term.  

The deal also requires hostages and Palestinian prisoners to be released.
