Russia accuses Ukraine of launching drone attack that led to fire at nuclear site

Russia condemned Ukraine on Sunday for allegedly targeting nuclear power plants and energy facilities with drone attacks overnight.

Russia said one of the attacks in its western Kursk region led to a fire at a nuclear power plant.

Ukraine was celebrating 34 years of its independence when the drone attacks occurred, the Associated Press reported. 

The fire at the nuclear facility was put out rapidly and no injuries have been reported, according to Russian officials.

A transformer was reportedly damaged in the attack but radiation levels remained normal. 

President Trump recently met separately with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky about reaching a potential peace agreement.
