Team USA advances to quarterfinals in World Baseball Classic after Italy defeats Mexico

Team USA advanced Wednesday night to the quarterfinals of the World Baseball Classic tournament after Italy defeated Mexico in the latest match, giving the United States the second seed in their pool.

The United States is now expected to compete against Canada on Friday night, while Italy will play Puerto Rico on Saturday night, according to USA Today. 

The United States has a 3-1 record while Italy leads the group with a 4-0 record in the Group B pool.

Both games will take place at Daikin Park in Houston and the winners will advance to the semifinals in Miami.
