Ukraine is scheduled to meet US in Switzerland for talks about ending war
Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, says Ukraine appreciates America’s willingness to engage in "substantive talks" about ending the war with Russia
Senior Ukrainian officials will soon travel to Switzerland for high-level talks with the United States to outline possible terms for ending Russia’s war in Ukraine, Reuters reported, citing officials.
Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, said on Telegram that these consultations will explore the “possible parameters of a future peace agreement.”
The discussions follow a recent 28-point U.S. peace proposal, which has sparked a rush by Ukraine and its European allies to coordinate a response, Reuters reported.
According to Umerov, Ukraine appreciates America’s willingness to engage in "substantive talks."
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, meanwhile, has cautioned that any deal must ensure both justice and security. He emphasized that real peace can’t be built without preserving Ukraine’s dignity or risking its freedom and ongoing Western support.
Zelenskiy has approved a delegation to lead the talks, headed by his chief of staff Andriy Yermak, joined by Umerov and other senior security officials.
The Ukrainian presidency said its team will firmly defend the country’s national interest and European security.
