President Donald Trump met with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday in Rome, a White House official revealed.

"President Trump and President Zelenskyy met privately today and had a very productive discussion. More details about the meeting will follow," said Steven Cheung, White House communications director.

Trump and Zelenskyy attended the funeral service for Pope Francis.

The meeting took place at St. Peter's Basilica for roughly 15 minutes. A Ukrainian official said the two agreed to meet again later in the day on Saturday, according to Reuters.

Zelenskyy posted about the meeting on X.

"Good meeting. We discussed a lot one on one. Hoping for results on everything we covered. Protecting lives of our people. Full and unconditional ceasefire," he wrote. "Reliable and lasting peace that will prevent another war from breaking out. Very symbolic meeting that has potential to become historic, if we achieve joint results. Thank you POTUS."
