Drag show cancelled at Nevada Air Force base by Pentagon officials

Leaders at the Department of Defense canceled a drag show that was set to occur earlier this week at an Air Force base in Nevada. 

Air Force leaders reportedly approved the show that was meant to celebrate Pride Month, but Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Mark Milley, shut it down. 

The officials said that the Pentagon cannot fund drag shows on bases, and it will have to be either canceled or moved off the base, according to NBC News. 

A U.S. official and a defense official reported that Milley was "visibly angry" about the decision to host a drag show on the base. 

“Consistent with Secretary Austin’s congressional testimony, the Air Force will not host drag events at its installations or facilities. Commanders have been directed to either cancel or relocate these events to an off-base location,” an Air Force official said when asked about the event.

Last month, Florida GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz submitted a letter to Austin and Milley that claimed six other drag shows or events were approved by the U.S. military to hold on bases.
