The Pentagon reportedly suspended a military official on Tuesday who helped advise the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on plans and strategies in Israel, after he allegedly made antisemitic posts online, the Jewish News Syndicate reported.

Col. Nathan McCormack, the Levant and Egypt branch chief at the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s J5 planning directorate, allegedly had a history of making anti-Israel posts through a semi-anonymous social media account, including claims that Israel is a "death cult" who acts as the U.S.'s "worst ally."

A Pentagon official on the Joint Staff told the outlet that the department is aware of the posts and is investigating the matter.

“The information on the X account does not reflect the position of the Joint Staff or the Department of Defense,” the unnamed official said. “The individual is being returned to his service while the matter is being investigated.”

The official clarified that McCormack's return to service meant he would not be part of the Joint Staff while the investigation is going on, and an officer has been assigned to lead the internal investigation.

“Our global alliances and partnerships are vital to our national security, enhancing our collective defense, deterrence and operational reach," the official added.

The suspension comes after Israel escalated a conflict with Iran last week by attacking the country's nuclear facilities and killing multiple military leaders and scientists. The U.S. and Israel have maintained that Iran cannot have nuclear weapons.
