Georgia Congressman says Biden's botched Afghanistan exit paved the way for Russia to invade Ukraine

Georgia GOP Rep. Andrew Clyde said that America's debacle in Afghanistan last year may have led to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The United States left Afghanistan last year in a botched withdrawal, resulting in 13 soldiers being killed in an attack in the capital city of Kabul.

"You saw weakness in Afghanistan and as a result of that, I think that contributed to the Russian invasion in Ukraine," Clyde said on Thursday's edition of the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "Biden showed weakness here." 

"You can see the domino effect across major foreign decisions across the world because of our president's weakness on the world stage," he continued. "It's really sad to see. I wish he was stronger and I wish people respected this country more." 

News broke on Thursday that WNBA star Brittney Griner was being released from a Russian prison in a prisoner exchange for a convicted Russian arms dealer, Viktor Bout.

"It's great news that Brittney Griner is coming back to the United States," Clyde said. "That's fantastic. But I'll tell you, this is another example of failed leadership on the Biden administration."

While many Americans are happy with Griner being able to go home to her family, questions have arisen about ex-Marine Paul Whelan who is still behind bars in Russia for espionage.

"We got Brittney Griner, but he left Paul Whelan in Russia," he continued. "That was a huge mistake. He should have been able to get both of them back for Viktor Bout."
