Rescue crews search for plane that went missing flying over Alaska, carrying 10 people

Searcher continued Friday to look for a missing plane near Nome, Alaska.

The 10-person flight departed from the Alaskan city of Unalakleet at 2:37 p.m. on Thursday and officials lost contact with it less than an hour later, according to the Associated Press. 

The Bering Air Caravan was headed to the city of Nome, in the southern part of the state, with a pilot and nine passengers.

David Olson, the director of operations for Bering Air says the airline is "working hard to gather details, get emergency assistance, search and rescue going. 

The Nome Volunteer Fire Department said the U.S. Coast Guard and the National Guard are involved in search efforts.
