The Pentagon’s acting inspector general said Thursday his office will review of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's usage of the messaging app Signal to discuss war plans in Yemen.

“The objective of this evaluation is to determine the extent to which the Secretary of Defense and other DoD personnel complied with DoD policies and procedures for the use of a commercial messaging application for official business," acting Inspector General Steven Stebbins wrote in a letter to Hegseth, according to The Associated Press.

The review will also analyze other defense officials' usage of the app.

President Donald Trump’s senior national security officials accidentally shared sensitive details about strike plans on the Houthi  group in Yemen with The Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg through the encrypted messaging app Signal.

"Additionally, we will review compliance with classification and records retention requirements,” Stebbins' letter reads.
