California Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer "should be replaced" after eight Senate Democratic caucus members voted for a bill to end the government shutdown.

"Senator Schumer is no longer effective and should be replaced. If you can’t lead the fight to stop healthcare premiums from skyrocketing for Americans, what will you fight for?" Khanna posted on X late Sunday.

Khanna, a progressive Democrat who represents Silicon Valley, has previously criticized Schumer's leadership, The Hill news outlet reported.

Rep. Mark Pocan, a progressive Democrat from Wisconsin, also blasted Schumer late Sunday.

“Don’t endorse or say who you voted for in NYC despite there being a Dem candidate. Get Dem Senators to negotiate a terrible 'deal' that does nothing real about healthcare. Screw over a national political party. Profile of scourge? Next,” Pocan posted on X.

Schumer had urged his fellow Senate Democrats to not vote for the House-passed federal funding bill, which they blocked from passing the upper chamber 14 times, as he pushed for an extension on Obamacare subsidies. However, on Sunday, eight Senate Democratic caucus members voted for the GOP funding bill, after the government shutdown hit its 40-day mark.
