GOP-led House panel holds hearing on border crisis in which Americans impacted will testify
Hearing is titled, "The Biden-Harris Border Crisis: Victim Perspectives"
The Republican-led House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing Tuesday on the ongoing problems at the southern U.S. border that will focus on Americans impacted by the record migration and border crossings under the Biden-Harris administration, which has resulted the U.S. having to provide food and shelter for millions of migrants.
The hearing is titled, "The Biden-Harris Border Crisis: Victim Perspectives."
The committee says the hearing will examine "the effects of the Biden-Harris Administration's open borders policies on American families and communities."
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott told Republican National Convention attendees in their speeches that the number of people who have illegal crossed the border during the current administration is roughly 11 million, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram newspaper.
Arrests for illegal border crossings reached a record high in December, going back as far as monthly numbers have been released, according to the Associated Press.
The hearing comes the morning of the presidential debate between Republican Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris, in which the border will almost certainly be a major topic.
Witnesses expected to to testify at the hearing include Patty Morin, the mother of Rachel Morin. An illegal migrant has been charged in her August 2023 murder.
