Florida GOP Rep. Anna Paulina Luna says she's left the House Freedom Caucus because some of the members are attempting to undermine her efforts to get the chamber to allow new parents to vote by proxy.

Luna has signed onto a petition in support of the temporary proxy privileges for such members that has enough signatures to force a full House vote.

"A small group among us threatened the Speaker, vowing to halt floor proceedings indefinitely ... unless he altered the rules to block my discharge petition," Luna wrote in the letter Monday.

The House Rules Committee will reportedly have a decision Tuesday morning about whether the petition will get a vote.

House Speaker Mike Johnson opposes the proxy voting, saying it's unconstitutional.

Luna, who gave birth two years ago, worked on the effort with Colorado Democratic Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who also had a baby while serving in office.

The petition calls for any new mother or father to give their voting privilege for their first 12 weeks to a fellow House member on Capitol Hill who will vote for them.
