Congressman Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind., said Thursday that if there is a government shutdown, the Democrats will be in a difficult spot because President Donald Trump will have more authority.

Stutzman said during an interview with the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show that he thinks the House passing a continuing resolution is the right move.

In March, Congress passed a continuing resolution to keep the government open for six months. However, the funding in the bill expires Sept. 30.

Congress will either have to pass another continuing resolution to fund the government for another six months or pass regular appropriations bills to avoid a government shutdown.

"It will be interesting to see how the Democrats act through all this and handle all of this, because if they shut the government down, President Donald Trump actually has more authority and power when we don't pass a budget, because he's then in charge of running the government, rather than Congress," Stutzman said. "So the Democrats are really in a bad spot."

He said he supports Trump and another continuing resolution is the direction to go in.
