Colorado GOPers move to oust state official who tried to get Trump off ballot, post SCOTUS decision

Colorado GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert and other state Republicans are threatening a recall effort on Colorado Democrat Secretary of State Jena Griswold, following the Supreme Court's decision Monday to thwarted her attempt to remove former President Trump, now a 2024 GOP presidential candidate, from the Tuesday's primary ballot.

A letter from Boebert and the others says Griswold “failed” and that her effort “creating a stain on our Republic and an outright embarrassment to Coloradans and Americans," according to The Hill newspaper.

The Supreme Court ruled Colorado cannot remove Trump from the ballot under the 14th Amendment’s insurrection clause because states don’t have the authority.

The insurrection argument is that Trump's comments Jan. 6, 2021, instigated the Capitol riots.

Others signing the letter were state GOP Party Chairman Dave Wiliams, state party Vice Chairman Hope Scheppelman and GOP Secretary Anna Ferguson, The Hill also reports.

The group would need 621,000 signatures to order a recall vote.

Griswold said Monday she was “disappointed” in the high court’s 9-0 ruling.
