Durham to call former FBI lawyer in case against Michael Sussmann

Prosecutors may call former FBI General Counsel James Baker to testify in the criminal case against Democratic attorney Michael Sussmann, according to reports.

According to the Epoch Times, during a status hearing, Special Counsel John Durham's office on Tuesday announced its intention to call Baker as a witness to corroborate whether Sussman lied to federal investigators.

Durham's office alleges that Sussmann intentionally lied to Baker in 2016 when he presented the FBI with false evidence linking the Trump campaign with the Russian government.

During the status hearing, U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper ordered the prosecution and Sussmann's defense team to continue sifting through the nearly 80,000-page discovery file Durham's team amassed during the investigation. This process could take months before a trial gets underway.

Both the defense and prosecution told the judge they are aiming for a trial date sometime in the spring of 2022.

Sussmann is accused of lying to federal investigators for statements he made allegedly linking Russian government officials working in tandem with the Trump campaign. 

Sussmann has pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
