New Jersey judges tap Robert Frazer as Alina Habba's replacement as US attorney
The Justice Department also confirmed Frazer's appointment in court filings Monday, stating it was made with consultation from the Trump administration.
District judges in New Jersey on Monday tapped a career prosecutor in the state to replace former acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba, according to an order on the U.S. District Court for New Jersey’s website.
President Donald Trump selected Habba, a Trump loyalist, to lead the federal prosecutor's office last year, but her confirmation was never finalized in the Senate before the appointment expired.
The judges selected Robert Frazer, who has served in the U.S. Attorney’s office for over two decades, as Habba's replacement.
The Justice Department also confirmed Frazer's appointment in court filings Monday.
"His appointment as United States Attorney followed consultations between the District Court and the Department of Justice’s senior leadership—consultations the Government had represented to the Court the Administration was willing to pursue," the department said.
Habba congratulated Frazer on the appointment in a post on X, stating that he will be a "great champion" for New Jersey.
"New Jersey deserves a great chief federal law enforcement official who is in line with President Trump’s agenda of making this country safe and NJ great," Habba wrote. "One thing should be clear- when judges work with [the Trump administration] to collaborate on serving what an overwhelming majority of Americans asked for at the ballots and not attack mindlessly for political gain, things get done."
