Justice Department probes allegations of fraud in Black Lives Matter movement: Sources
The investigation centers on allegations that the leaders of the movement defrauded donors during the racial justice protests in the summer of 2020, who poured tens of millions of dollars into the movement.
The Justice Department has opened a probe into fraud allegations tied to the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement, sources familiar with the investigation confirmed to Just The News on Thursday.
The investigation centers on allegations that the leaders of the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, Inc. and other Black-led organizations defrauded donors during the racial justice protests in the summer of 2020, who poured tens of millions of dollars into the movement.
An unnamed source told the Associated Press that the investigation initially began under the Biden administration but has since received renewed attention under the new presidential administration. The probe is looking into how the leaders of BLM spent the funds, including $90 million it received during the Minneapolis protest over the death of George Floyd.
It also comes after BLM foundation leaders used some of the funds to purchase a $6 million Los Angeles-area property that includes a home with six bedrooms and bathrooms.
The foundation has confirmed that its leaders received subpoenas from the Justice Department, but that it is not the official target of a federal investigation.
“We remain committed to full transparency, accountability, and the responsible stewardship of resources dedicated to building a better future for Black communities,” the foundation told the outlet in a statement.
