Abbott says 161 people are still missing in Kerr County, days after Texas flood
Officials in Kerr County, which was hit by the flood the hardest, admitted during a news conference that no one has been found alive in the county since Friday.
Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott on Tuesday told reporters that at least 161 people are still missing in Kerr County, days after the community was devastated by a major flood.
The massive flooding began last week near multiple summer camps in Kerr County, including an all-girl summer camp that lost 27 campers and counselors to the floodwaters. At least 110 people have died in the flood so far, per the New York Times.
Officials in Kerr County, which was the hardest hit by the flood, admitted during a news conference that no one has been found alive in the county since Friday, and Abbott said his priority was locating the missing people.
“The primary job right now continues to be locating everybody who was affected by this flood,” Abbott said. “There still remains those who are missing ... We will not stop until we identify, recover every single body.”
The flood is considered one of the deadliest disasters for children in decades, with at least 30 children confirmed dead in Kerr County so far. Five more children are still missing in the county, along with a 19-year-old camp counselor.
The update comes as President Donald Trump is expected to visit the region on Friday.
