Authorities launch investigation into fire that started at New Mexico GOP headquarters
There was no one in the building when the fire started and no injuries were reported.
Federal authorities have launched an investigation into a damaging fire that broke out in the entryway of the New Mexico GOP headquarters over the weekend.
The fire broke out early Sunday morning, and authorities have discovered unspecified “incendiary materials” at the scene, a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives spokesperson said Monday.
The spokesperson did not elaborate on what the materials were, according to The Associated Press.
Firefighters were on the scene before 6 a.m. when the fire started and got it under control within five minutes, according to Lt. Jason Fejer from Albuquerque Fire Rescue.
There was no one in the building when the fire started, and no injuries were reported.
Executive Director of the New Mexico GOP Leticia Muñoz thanked first responders for their quick action.
"I want to thank everyone for their prayers for our @NewMexicoGOP office," she wrote on X. "I’m very thankful to first responders and law enforcement who saved our office from burning to the ground! Praise God!"
