Heavy rains in Southern California following massive wildfires are creating mudslides, making for dangerous driving conditions and the closing of schools.

The wildfire earlier this month in Los Angeles County killed at least 28 people and destroyed almost 17,000 structures.

The fires have been mostly contained. But the heavy rain, falling on acres of land that lost anchoring from tree and bushes uproots and burned in the fires, as resulted in the expected mudslides.

Parts of Interstate 5, a major north–south route from the Mexican to the Canadian border, has been closed. And public schools in the Los Angles city of Malibu have been closed as a result of the dangerous conditions, according to The Los Angeles Times outlet.
