One dead, 10 injured after explosion at US Steel plant outside Pittsburgh
The county's emergency services department said a fire at the plant started around 10:51 a.m. Local authorities said they are working with US Steel to investigate what caused the explosion.
One person died Monday and at least 10 people were injured after an explosion occurred at a U.S. Steel plant in western Pennsylvania.
Emergency workers on site are trying to rescue those who are still trapped, according to the Associated Press. At least seven people have been taken to the hospital so far, per CNN. One person is still unaccounted for.
The identity of the person who died has not yet been released.
The explosion occurred at the Clairton Coke Works, which is near Pittsburgh. Scott Buckiso, executive vice president and chief manufacturing officer for US Steel, said the plant is now stable.

“With their full cooperation and transparency, we aim to get to the bottom of the origin of what caused this explosion and prevent it from ever happening again,” Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato said at a press briefing.
The plant, one of four major U.S. Steel plants in Pennsylvania that employ several thousand workers, is considered the largest coking operation in North America.
