Governors sweep into D.C. to offer jobs to federal workers laid off in DOGE cuts

The governors of Maryland New York are try to provide work opportunities to federal workers in Washington, D.C. laid off as part of the Trump administration's sweeping cut the U.S. government work force.

New York Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul has launched what appears to be the ambitious effort, posting ads outside of the the nation's capital busy transit hub Union State, as the Trump's Department of Government Efficiency has already eliminate an estimated 100,000 jobs. 

“DOGE said you’re fired? We say: You’re hired! New York wants you!” reads thee ad, along with an image of the Statue of Liberty redone in the likeness of the iconic Uncle Sam U.S. Army posters. 

The ad also urges out-of-work federal workers to apply for jobs at a website "We Want You." 

Maryland Democrat Gov. Wes Moore has also announced a series of actions to hire federal workers, including a virtual information session that will be held Friday to educate individuals on state jobs available. 

The state of Virginia is also hosting a virtual hiring event Wednesday.

In addition to estimated 100,000 federal employees laid off, 75,000 took buyouts before layoffs occurred, according to USA Today.
