The school went into lockdown earlier Monday after reports came in of shots being fired at the Norlin Library on the university's main campus. The lockdown was later lifted, but remains in effect for the library itself.
"CUPD is investigating a potential swatting incident at Norlin Library," the police department said in a news alert. "The shelter in place has been lifted for all locations on main campus except Norlin Library. A heavy police presence remains in the area and will continue while CUPD investigates."
The potential swatting incident comes amid a wave of increased shooting hoaxes in the past week. The University of Arkansas and the University of Iowa also experienced alleged swatting incidents earlier Monday and Villanova University experienced a swatting call last week during their "Opening Day" celebration.
The University of South Carolina, and the University of Tennessee were also targeted recently.
