Security shot at a U-Haul truck that ignored commands to stop the vehicle as it approached the entrance to a California Coast Guard base, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

Video appears to show the truck with its headlights on reversing toward security personnel who were around a vehicle outside Coast Guard Base Alameda at around 10 p.m. on Thursday, Fox News reported. Gunfire then erupted as officers shouted orders from a barricade, resulting in the driver accelerating forward.

The U.S. Coast Guard said security personnel on Coast Guard Island had witnessed the U-Haul truck "driving erratically and attempting to back into the base."

Officers at the entrance of the base "discharged several rounds of live fire" after the driver ignored "multiple verbal commands" to stop, then proceeded to back up toward the base, according to the Coast Guard.

"When the vehicle’s actions posed a direct threat to the safety of Coast Guard and security personnel, law enforcement officers discharged several rounds of live fire," the military branch said in a statement.

The Coast Guard said that no personnel were injured during the incident.

The truck had been parked outside the base for the better part of the day. After the shooting, the driver fled the scene.

Earlier on Thursday, there was a protest outside the entrance of the base, during which demonstrators attempted to block U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents from entering the base.

Two people were detained and taken away after dozens of California Highway Patrol officers wearing riot gear tried to disperse the crowd to let civilian employees leave.

On Thursday, President Trump announced that his plan to send federal troops to San Francisco had been postponed for the time being. The Coast Guard base was meant to have been a staging area for the troops.
