Suspect in Montana bar shooting finally apprehended after week-long manhunt
No motive for the shooting has been released so far, but Brown lived in the local area. His family members said the veteran suffered from serious mental illness issues and investigators believe Brown used his own gun in the shooting.
Local law enforcement in Montana on Friday announced that the suspect in a bar shooting last week that killed four people has finally been captured.
The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Army veteran Michael Brown, fled the scene after the shooting, which took place at the Owl Bar in Anaconda, Montana on Aug. 1. The event triggered an eight-day manhunt.
Officials said Brown was apprehended on Friday afternoon in an area west of Anaconda and south of Highway 1, the New York Times reported.
“It’s a good day, we got our man," Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen said at a news conference. “I am proud of the unrelenting law enforcement effort this week to find and arrest Michael Paul Brown. The support we've seen for the community of Anaconda from across the state and the nation has also been remarkable. The families and friends of the victims remain in my prayers."
The four victims have been identified as 64-year-old Nancy Kelley, 59-year-old Daniel Baillie, 70-year-old David Leach and 74-year-old Tony Palm. Kelley was a bartender at the pub and the other three were patrons.
No motive for the shooting has been released so far, but Brown lived in the local area. His family members said the veteran suffered from serious mental illness issues and investigators believe Brown used his own gun in the shooting.
