Coast Guard confirms its service members will receive October payment amid shutdown
The Coast Guard said it remains fully operational during the shutdown, which began earlier this month after the Senate failed to pass the House's continuing resolution to keep funding at its previous level through Nov. 21.
The United States Coast Guard on Monday confirmed that its servicemembers will be paid as scheduled on Wednesday despite the government shutdown, which could come from funds allocated under the One Big Beautiful Bill.
The Coast Guard said it remains fully operational during the shutdown, which began earlier this month after the Senate failed to pass the House's continuing resolution to keep funding at its previous level through Nov. 21.
The Coast Guard does not operate under the Pentagon or War Department, but is under the purview of the Department of Homeland Security.
“Our people are the heart of the Coast Guard,” Acting Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Kevin Lunday said. "We are grateful for the actions taken by President [Donald] Trump and Secretary [Kristi] Noem to ensure that our members — who protect and defend our nation’s maritime borders and our citizens every day — receive the pay they have earned.”
The news comes after Trump directed War Secretary Pete Hegseth on Saturday to use all available resources to pay U.S. troops during the shutdown.
