The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Monday confirmed that it has completed its first chartered flight for illegal migrants who agreed to self-deport in exchange for $1,000.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order earlier this month that formally established the federal program, which also gave undocumented migrants free flights out of the country. The program is part of the Trump administration's efforts to curb illegal immigration and deport people already in the U.S. illegally.

The department said the flight carried 64 Colombian and Honduran migrants back to their home countries.

“All participants were offered the same benefits as any illegal alien who self-deports using the CBP Home App," DHS said in a news release. "They received travel assistance, a $1,000 stipend, and preserved the possibility they could one day return to the United States legally.”

The program allows migrants to apply for self-deportation through the Customs and Border Patrol app, and gives the migrants three weeks to finalize their affairs before leaving the country.

“If you are here illegally, use the CBP Home App to take control of your departure and receive financial support to return home," Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said in a statement. "If you don’t, you will be subjected to fines, arrest, deportation and will never be allowed to return."
