Grassley slams Biden admin over Afghan vetting failure
Grassley further reiterated information he received from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard in July.
Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, this week, slammed the Biden administration over its failure to properly vet Afghan evacuees in the wake of the stabbing attack by an Afghan national on two National Guardsmen in Washington, D.C.
"The terrorists entered our country as part of a program called 'Operation Allies Welcome' in the aftermath of the Biden administration’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan," Grassley said on the Senate floor, referencing the stabber and another Afghan arrested over a bomb plot.
"Since 2021, I’ve warned the Biden administration, my congressional allies and colleagues and the American public about the failure to vet Afghan evacuees," he added. "Unfortunately, the Biden administration was not honest with the American people about the program’s vetting vulnerabilities."
Grassley further reiterated information he received from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard in July, revealing that roughly 1.6% of the nearly 100,000 Afghan evacuees had some degree of known terrorist ties or other derogatory information.
