The Trump administration's border czar, Tom Homan, on Tuesday said that Iranian terror cells in the United States still pose a "significant threat" to the country, despite tensions simmering in the Middle East.

The statement comes after U.S. border officials warned over the weekend that thousands of Iranian nationals illegally entered the country during the Biden administration, according to The Hill

Homan made the comment to Fox Business' Maria Bartiromo, who asked the official how much of a threat the terror cells still pose to Americans.

“Well, it’s a significant threat,” Homan said. “And I have been talking about this for four years. When I was a Fox News contributor, before I came back with President [Donald] Trump, and for four years I said my biggest concern was the open border causing the biggest national security vulnerability this country has ever seen.”

The border czar indicated that the cells are responsible for a lot of serious crimes in the country, such as drug and sex trafficking. Mexican and Venezuelan cartels are also responsible for human and drug trafficking in the U.S.

Homan's comments come after the United States bombed Iranian nuclear facilities over the weekend, which Iran responded to with missile strikes on U.S. bases in the Middle East. However, Trump has since brokered a ceasefire in the larger conflict between Iran and Israel.
