ICE reports record arrests over the summer as it focuses on working with local law enforcement

Immigration and Customs Enforcement made a record number of arrests over the summer, which was achieved by focusing on working with local law enforcement in cities like Atlanta, Houston, Memphis, New York and San Francisco. 

ICE officers and agents have over the past three months alone arrested over145,000 people suspected of being in the U.S. illegally, with the bulk of arrests occurring at airports, courthouses and ICE check-ins, according to NBC News.

In August alone, they arrested a record 50,925, according to the Department of Homeland Security. ICE arrested 50,208 in July, which was the record at the time, and nearly 44,000 arrests in June.

“The hard-working men and women of DHS continue to break records as they defend the homeland and protect the American people,” Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said in a statement last week. “For the third straight month, ICE set a new record for the highest number of illegal aliens arrested in a single month, nearly 51,000.”

ICE also arrested roughly 1,600 people a day in August and was averaging 1,000 people a day before that.

The DHS said more than 3 million illegal migrants have left the United States since President Donald Trump returned to office last year.
