War Department to partner with OpenAI to add ChatGPT to its artificial intelligence platform
The addition of ChatGPT comes just two months after the department launched its "Gemini for Government" tool, which is a specialized version of Google's Gemini that has been approved to handle controlled unclassified information.
The War Department said Monday that it is partnering with OpenAI to help implement ChatGPT onto its artificial intelligence platform, GenAI.mil, which will make ChatGPT's advanced language models available to all 3 million department personnel.
The addition of ChatGPT comes just two months after the department launched its "Gemini for Government" tool, which is a specialized version of Google's Gemini that has been approved to handle controlled unclassified information.
"ChatGPT will be made available to enhance mission execution and readiness, delivering reliable capabilities to the joint force," the department said in a news release.
The move comes as the Trump administration urges federal agencies to embrace artificial intelligence and add it into the federal workforce to help streamline and improve productivity.
President Donald Trump has also pushed for a uniform system of AI regulations for the entire U.S., though advocates have warned that a 50-state patchwork of AI regulations would limit innovation and jeopardize America's ability to stay ahead in the AI race.
The War Department said its embrace of artificial intelligence and the rise of its AI platform "reflects a decisive cultural and technological shift, validating the Department's commitment to being an AI-first enterprise.
"The platform's proven reliability, evidenced by its 100% uptime since launch and its robust infrastructure, has established it as the trusted AI platform across the Department," the department added.
